Teaching my regular classes at the Ross Farnsworth - East Valley YMCA.
I had a new student join my “youth & family” class last night - the father of one of the existing students. I bill this class as “youth & family” specifically to allow this. Parents can take karate with their young children. Or, to put that the other way around, adults can join the class if they bring their own kid with them. 😉 Right now he’s the only adult in the class, and he’s a pretty big dude, so I’m extremely pleased that he’s not self-conscious about it. In fact, I think it’s going to be perfect.
The adult class was sparsely attended this evening. It’s the first week of school for most students, so I’m sure everyone had organizational meetings, or school shopping, or whatever. Regardless, it was a good opportunity for me to dial in on what the few attending students really needed. I’ve got a student hoping to test for shodan in the next year, so I ran the whole class through the shodan test, regardless of rank. Then we spent a lot of time on each person’s individual kata while those not being scrutinized at that moment going through their kata on their own off to the side.
