What to Wear

You do not need a uniform to begin karate training, but you should purchase one soon. Karate uniforms are designed for ease of movement, and wearing the uniform helps students get in the mood for training.

Clothing

Until you purchase a uniform, you should wear loose-fitting clothing suitable for exercise, including long pants and a plain shirt that covers your entire torso. Sweat pants and a plain t-shirt would be perfect, but to be clear: Do not wear shorts, skirts, jeans, or tights.

Karate fosters an atmosphere of humility and respect, so please do not wear revealing, distracting, or other inappropriate clothing.

Jewelry

Please do not wear jewelry of any kind in class. It can be dangerous to yourself and others. This includes rings, watches, fitness trackers, necklaces, and piercings. If your jewelry cannot be removed for some reason, please discuss it with the instructor before class begins.

Hair

Long hair should be secured with something soft, like hair bands or a “scrunchie.” Please do not use hair pins as they can come out in class and someone can step on them.
